Advancing the pharmacovigilance profession
The Global Pharmacovigilance Professional Certification (GPPC) is developed jointly by the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) Special Interest Group on PV Professional Qualification Framework and the Institute of Pharmacovigilance.
Why a career framework?
Pharmacovigilance is an ever-evolving discipline that spans multiple areas of science and a wide range of activities. People with various backgrounds and talents collaborate on challenging tasks — making decisions under time pressure, reviewing the best available evidence, and operating in a highly regulated environment.
Exact job titles differ between organisations, but the underlying competence required for a job can be standardised. The framework therefore works with the concept of professional roles, defining the scope of the profession so that competency standards — and certification — can follow.
The path to certification
- 1Define the roles that belong to the profession (the Career Framework).
- 2Develop competency standards specifying the knowledge, skills and attitudes each role requires.
- 3Certify candidates against those standards through prerequisites screening and knowledge assessment.

An international non-profit scientific organisation dedicated to advancing pharmacovigilance both scientifically and educationally, and to enhancing all aspects of the safe and proper use of medicines.

A not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation established in 2015 to elevate pharmacovigilance through professional certification, practical education, research and conferences. The Institute administers GPPC certification.
